Perfectionism Cripples

If you are one of those people who has to have everything perfect before releasing an article, a book, a website, or whatever passion project you are working on, it is likely that you feel frustrated or overwhelmed—as if your work will never be good enough to send out into the world.

You may be suffering from perfectionism, an affliction keeping you from realizing your dreams.

While there's nothing wrong with demanding excellence, what often lies underneath perfectionism is fear.

The fear that you will be judged by others.  Fear that you will fail.  Fear that your work is not good enough.

Perfectionism can become an excuse for not completing what you've started.

Good enough can be great

Award-wining author and poet, Vironika Tugaleva, breaks down the reason perfection isn't a reasonable goal.

The most dangerous way we sabotage ourselves is by waiting for the perfect moment to begin.  Nothing works perfectly the first time, or the first fifty times.  Everything has a learning curve.  The beginning is just that—a beginning.  Surrender your desire to do it flawlessly on the first try.  It's not possible.  Learn to learn.  Learn to fail. Learn to learn from failing.  And begin today.  Begin now.  Stop waiting.

If you wait for perfection you'll miss out on all the things you could be experiencing, the life you could be living.

No one is perfect the first time we try something.  Humans are flawed, complex creatures who adapt, learn, and grow through experience.

Making “perfection” your ultimate goal goes against our nature.  But you can be good enough.

Learning from your mistakes is an essential lesson.  Trying and failing time and time again allows you to go from good to great.

The only way you'll become great is by trying, picking yourself up, learning, and trying again with a fresh perspective and renewed confidence.

Perfection is a myth.  Don't let striving for it cause you to miss out on achieving your dreams.
