Mastering Productivity

Finding a balance between productivity and downtime is essential for optimal health.

You don't always want to be "on," yet you want to be fully committed to your tasks while in work mode, which means you'll have more time to relax.

Below are our top 5 productivity hacks that will change the way you work and approach your life.

5 Productivity Hacks

Designate a workspace

Whether you're working in an office or from home, reserve an area only used for business.

Designated workspaces signal to your mind and body when it is time to work, and lets others know not to distract you.

Start and end your business day with specific actions

Every place of business has operating hours.  Yours should be no different, even if you’re working remotely.

A series of actions normally open and close the day.  A store clerk stocks shelves, puts money into a cash register, and puts an “open” sign in the window.  At closing, they empty the register, sweep the floor, and lock up for the night.

Define your opening and closing routine.

These actions can psychologically train your mind to “turn on” for the day and turn “off” for the night, providing you an optimal time to recharge.

Prioritize your Most Important Tasks (MIT)

We often confuse what is important with what is urgent.  Obsessing over urgency often compromises our Most Important Tasks—the ones that help us achieve our long-term goals.

Focus on doing your MITs at the time of day when you are most productive.

Time block your calendar

Carve out time to complete your Tasks.  Schedule them like you would any appointment.  This is an excellent way to get your MITs done.

When you block time, make sure to keep this time sacred—no distractions allowed!

You'll be amazed at what you get done.

Schedule time to think

We live in a world in which we are so busy doing we rarely leave ourselves time to just be—to simply exist and think.

Thinking time is equally as critical as busy time.

Thinking time is when you allow your brain to be open to creative riffing and problem solving that doesn’t happen when you are always busy doing.

Remember, we are human beings, not human doings.  Your mind and body will thank you when you stop and just be.
